Great question! Many Christians are frustrated and feel they are out of the will of God. They have many questions about God’s will. What does God’s will mean? How can I discover God’s will for my life? How can I be sure of His will, etc.?
Many envision God’s will as something vague and/or mysterious so let’s get right to the point of truth and demystify God’s will. The will of God is not a thing, but the person of Jesus Christ. Christ in you is the will of God. Philippians 2:13 says, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose.”
God’s will is not some outward program, method, or formula to be learned but is the indwelling spirit of Christ. Our sensitivity to His leading is brought into sharp focus as we master His Word, make decisions based on His truth, and develop spiritual wisdom.
Jesus is not a map or a compass; He is the way, the truth, and the life. I read a story of a missionary who was following a native with a machete in a dense jungle. He asked to see a map and a compass. The native turned to him and said, “I am the path, just follow me.” John 10:4 reads, “He goes ahead of them, and they follow because they know His voice.”
II Corinthians 2:9,10 says, “For in Christ all the fullness of the deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness (made complete) in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.” Please realize that wisdom and knowledge for life is not an external formula of legalism that we must follow.
Wisdom and knowledge are hidden in the person of Christ. Colossians 2:3 says, “In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 3:3 reads, “For you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”
We are complete in Him and when we yield to Him, He reveals His will to us. He is the Sabbath rest for the children of God. “For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work just as God did from His.” (Hebrews 4:10)
The moment we rest in Christ, it just happens. A faith dependence on Him leads to activity in a natural way. It’s not something we force, just let Christ who lives in you show His love through you. Paul did not have to strive to do the will of God. Christ was in Him, who was the will of God. Paul did not have to try to be Christ-like; Christ was being Himself in Paul. Paul just yielded and responded by faith.
So whether you are a factory worker, housewife, banker, butcher, pastor, etc. , as a born-again Christian, you are in the will of God because God is in you. Colossians 3:4 says, “…Christ is your life…” So no more fretting to find the will of God, just enjoy the love relationship with Him, and WWJD (Watch What Jesus Does) as you yield to the spirit life within.
LIFE LESSON: Paul said “I’ve been crucified with Christ and I no longer live but Christ lives in me, and the life I live in this body, I live by faith.” What is God’s will is for your life? It is a person for your life and His name is Jesus! He died for you to give His life to you, to live His life through you!
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We need both to keep the ministry going. You are great partners in Christ.
